Georgian Large Double Series Opaque Twist Wine Glass or Goblet, Ovoid Bowl

Description

This is a large Georgian, English, double series opaque twist wine glass or goblet dating from the second half of the 18th century, c1765.

The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot commensurate with some 250 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.

The glass has an ovoid-shaped bowl measuring 7.5 cm (3 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is moulded with diamonds to the lower third and sits on a double series opaque twist stem consisting of thirteen white enamel "cotton" strands wound around a central twist of two tapes. The stem ends in a conical foot which measures 8.2 cm (3.3 inches) in diameter. The glass is 18.5 cm (7.4 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There are a couple of dealer's or collector's stickers to the underside of the foot.

English lead glass weighing in at 240 g. (~ 8 1/2 oz.).
