ANTIQUE #SA1134376

A Small, Fusee, Balloon Style Table Clock By Joseph Jump Of London. In A Mahogany Case. circa 1880.

£2,750    $3,744    €3,231
A very pretty table timepiece by this good maker.

The circular, 8 day duration, chain fusee timepiece movement with Anchor Recoil escapement. The back plate bearing the maker''s name ''JUMP. LONDON''. Also having a pendulum transit lock and a shaped bob with top-mounted micrometer regulation adjustment.

Behind only a 4'' diameter, bowed painted dial that is nicely set within a circular brass frame. The dial has outer Arabic 5''s, a divided minute ring and inner, Roman hour numerals. It is also signed ''Jump'' (of) ''London''. The matching steel hands are of split arrowhead style and the dial is protected with a cast brass bezel with a snapped-in bowed glass. This is released with a side push button.

Contained in a figured mahogany ''balloon'' style waisted case. The front edge has a border of inlaid cross grain satinwood that is within ebony and boxwood stringing. The waisted centre has an inlaid floral paterae and the straight plinth has a moulded top edge and stands upon 4 cast brass, ''lions paw'' feet.

* Joseph Jump was apprenticed to none other than Benjamin Lewis Vulliamy in c.1827. When Benjamin died Joseph and his brother actually took over the business and succeeded him. During the early 20th century, the firm of Jump were clockmakers to the king.

Dimensions: 11 1/2'' high x 6 7/8'' wide x 5'' deep excluding the feet.

Condition: The movement is completely original and though in good working order and keeping to time, would benefit from a strip down and clean (service). The dial is discoloured with small paint chips to the edge and a circular chip below the numeral VII (this can be repaired). The case is of good colour and really is excellent with no loss of veneer or polish. It does show pleasing signs of age.

Price: The price includes a full service and guarantee.
