This double fusee skeleton clock originates from the 1930 period in a Victorian Gothic style. It is made from brass, glass, and wood, featuring a brass and black colour scheme. The object comprises an exposed brass movement with Gothic spires, a silvered chapter ring, and a top-mounted bell, all housed beneath a tall clear glass dome on an ebonised wooden base edged with white cord trim. The visible clock displays black Roman numerals, blued steel hands, ornate openwork brass framing, and four small turned feet beneath the main movement. The case measures 38 cm high, 23 cm wide, and 8 cm deep. Appropriate for placement on a mantelpiece in a gentleman's library or study, the clock brings traditional character to an interior. The ebonised wooden base provides a stable foundation for the glass dome and internal metal framework. The visible mechanical elements and architectural spires create a focal point suited for display on a prominent shelf or side table.

A double fusee skeleton clock is a mechanical timepiece with openwork brass plates that reveal the internal movement, utilizing two cone-shaped pulleys (fusees) connected by gut line or chain to drive both the timekeeping and striking trains.

Victorian skeleton clocks were typically constructed from cast and hand-fretted brass plates, steel gears and arbors, silvered brass chapter rings, and mounted onto ebonised or mahogany wooden bases beneath a mouth-blown glass dome.

Authentic 19th-century examples display hand-cut brass framing, hand-filed wheel teeth, silvered brass dials with engraved Roman numerals, and original glass domes that fit precisely into the recessed groove of the wooden plinth.

A brass skeleton clock serves as a focal point on a dark wood mantelpiece, a minimalist sideboard, or integrated into a library bookcase, contrasting well against rich background paint tones or exposed brick.

Keep the glass dome in place to protect the unsealed movement from airborne dust and moisture, clean the exterior glass with a dry microfibre cloth, and ensure the mechanical movement is serviced by a qualified horologist every five to seven years.
