Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

In late 19th and early 20th-century Scandinavia, travelling physicians and healthcare practitioners often utilized timber cases shaped similarly to standard leather Gladstone bags. Crafted by local woodworkers, these boxes provided rigid, protective storage for medical instruments during travel across rural landscapes.

These medical containers were constructed from native European woods using bentwood or joinery techniques, reinforced with metal rivets, iron framing, and brass locking mechanisms. A turned wooden or forged metal handle was fixed to the top ridge for carrying.

Authentic examples display hand-fitted joinery, natural grain variations, hand-hammered rivets, and authentic age wear around the keyholes, handle, and base. The interior often retains original paper linings, dividers, or stamp markings from medical use.

This item functions as a tabletop accent or functional storage box on a sideboard, bookshelf, or desk. Its warm timber tones and industrial metal hardware integrate into rustic farmhouse, gentlemans library, or eclectic interior schemes.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a neutral beeswax polish annually to maintain the natural wood patina. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight, central heating radiators, and damp conditions to prevent timber shrinkage or metal oxidisation.
