A very beautiful and rare early 18th century George I Walnut side Chair in the manner of Giles Grendey, having the most fabulous untouched colour and patina.
In lovely original condition retaining all parts including the shaped stretcher. Having classic carved knee with pips, the scrolls and shell continuing above the seat rail as the best examples do, this is often referred to as hipped. The crest with scroll carved decoration. The splat is shaped both ways to incorporate the sitters back and is cut on away at a sharp angle on the edge to give the chair back a light elegant appearance.
Bearing an old lebel to the underneath for the Starling Collection.
