Antique Set Of 10 Chippendale Revival Dining Chairs 19th Century

A beautiful Antique set of ten  mahogany Chippendale Revival dining chairs, comprising eight sidechairs and two armchairs,  Circa 1880 in date.
 
They have been crafted from hand carved solid flame mahogany with drop in seats upholstered in Juniper teal and cream damask. They have beautifully shaped and carved pierced splat backrests. The carvers have curved open arms and they all have splay legs to the back with elegant square front legs joined with H stretchers for extra strength.
 
The chairs are a rich mahogany colour with a striking grain and good patina.

In really excellent condition having been beautifully cleaned, polished, waxed and reupholstered in our workshops, please see photos for confirmation.

Thomas Chippendale 
 
(1718 - 1779) was a London cabinet-maker and furniture designer in the mid-Georgian, English Rococo, and Neoclassical styles.
 
In 1754 he published a book of his designs, titled The Gentleman and Cabinet Maker''s Director. The designs are regarded as reflecting the current London fashion for furniture for that period and were used by other cabinet makers outside London. The Director shows four main styles: 1. English with deep carving, 2. elaborate French rococo in the style of Louis XV furniture, 3. Chinese style with latticework and lacquer, and 4. Gothic with pointed arches, quatrefoils and fret-worked legs.
