FAQs

Regency furniture, spanning roughly from 1811 to 1830, is characterised by classical proportions, neoclassical motifs inspired by ancient Greece and Rome, and the prominent use of dark timbers like mahogany.

Cabinet makers of the period primarily utilised solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, often incorporating decorative brass inlays, ebony stringing, or carved rope-twist details.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, genuine patina on the timber, traditional hand-stuffed upholstery foundations, and structural characteristics consistent with early nineteenth-century hand tools.

These pieces provide a striking contrast when paired with a minimalist contemporary dining table, bridging historic craftsmanship with clean, modern architectural lines.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent splitting, and apply microcrystalline wax periodically to nourish the surface finish.
