This French chateau corner cabinet from 1860 is built from rich brown mahogany with glass panels and cast brass escutcheons. The serpentine form has an ornate carved crest at the top, shaped glazed upper doors with curved glazing bars, panelled lower doors with shaped mouldings, and a carved lower apron above bracket feet. A pink tassel hangs from the keyhole of the upper doors, complementing the pale cream interior lining and the visible internal glass shelves. Measuring 249 cm high, 147.5 cm wide and 97 cm deep, the piece comes apart into approximately 15 pieces for transport. In a modern home, this corner cabinet suits a living room, dining room or grand hallway as a display and storage unit for fine tableware, glassware or ornaments. The upper glass section showcases collections, while the lower enclosed cupboard keeps items out of sight. The warm wood tones and classical French decorative elements add traditional character and presence to a corner space.

French Rococo style corner cabinets, historically known as encoignures, are designed specifically to fit into wall intersections. They typically feature serpentine or curved fronts, hand-carved motifs such as shells and foliage, moulded frames, and glazed or panelled doors.

These cabinets are predominantly constructed using solid timbers and fine veneers such as mahogany, walnut, or kingwood. Glazed upper sections feature glass panels held by shaped wooden glazing bars, finished with cast brass or gilt-bronze escutcheons.

Authentic pieces display hand-carved crestings, serpentine pediments, traditional hand-cut joinery, and heavy cast hardware. The rear framing is shaped at a right angle to fit structural room corners precisely.

Position the unit in an unutilised corner of a dining room or living area to add vertical structure. The glazed upper section can be used to display ceramics, glassware, or curated books, contrasting dark timber against lighter wall colours.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the cabinet away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber movement and finish fading.
