FAQs

Victorian furniture design spans the reign of Queen Victoria (1837-1901) and encompasses various revivals, typically characterised by sturdy construction, rich timbers like mahogany, and curved elements such as balloon backs.

These chairs are traditionally constructed from solid timbers such as mahogany, often featuring hand-carved details, joined with mortise and tenon construction, and upholstered over traditional webbing and stuffing.

Authenticity is identified through period-appropriate joinery, hand-turned wooden components, timber patina, and traditional fixings such as cast brass or porcelain castors where applicable.

Pairing antique timber chairs with a contemporary minimalist dining table creates a striking contrast that highlights the craftsmanship of the vintage pieces while keeping the space feeling modern.

Maintain mahogany furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, and clean periodically with a soft, dry cloth or specialist beeswax.
