FAQs

Windsor chairs originated in England during the early 18th century, developing from vernacular furniture-making traditions where individual sticks or spindles are inserted directly into a solid sculpted wooden seat.

Traditional Windsor chairs typically employ a combination of timbers, using dense hardwoods like elm for the saddle-shaped seat, ash or beech for the bentwood bow and spindles, and fruitwood or pine for the undercarriage.

Authenticity is identified through hand-turned spindle work, wedged through-tenon joints, adze marks on the sculpted seat, and natural wear patterns such as oxidisation and minor shrinkage cracks consistent with age.

Pair these chairs with a contemporary minimalist dining table to create a balanced contrast between clean modern lines and historic tactile textures.

Maintain the wood by applying microcrystalline wax periodically, keeping them away from direct heat sources, and avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to prevent timber drying and splitting.
