Victorian armchairs are characterised by deep button tufting, scroll-shaped or spoon-backed frames, and robust wooden construction, reflecting the ornate and comfortable design ethos of the 19th century.

These chairs typically feature hardwood frames made from mahogany, walnut, or beech, traditionally hand-sprung with horsehair or coir stuffing, and finished with deep buttoning and corded trim.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-turned wooden legs, often with brass or ceramic castors, traditional hand-tied upholstery tacks, and aged wood patination rather than machine-made staples.

Pair this piece with contemporary minimalist furniture to create an eclectic contrast, or place it alongside neutral tones to let the rich textile texture and colour become a focal point.

Vacuum gently with a soft brush attachment to remove dust, avoid direct sunlight to prevent fabric fading, and consult a professional textile conservator for deep cleaning.
