This is an unusual fruitwood c19th puzzle snuff box, usually they are in the shape of a bird, but this example has a womens face and head so in the shape of a boat with a women's figurehead. Offering protection from harsh seas.

The lid swings sideways and then the bottom section of the lid pulls down and then swings sideways to access the contents.

The snuff box measures 14.8cm l x 3.5cm w x 7.2cm h.
