Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This matched pair of nineteenth-century Biedermeier display cabinets dates from around 1840 and takes the form of Swedish vitrines made from elm. Each cabinet exhibits a warm honey colour with book-matched veneer across the woodwork, highlighted by minor surface marks and restorations. Architectural stepped cornices surmount single glazed doors that open on keys with brass hardware, flanked by turned columns and elevated on block feet. Mirrored backs inside provide three-hundred-and-sixty-degree coverage for items displayed on two shaped shelves. Measuring 177.8 cm high, 110 cm wide, and 52.7 cm deep, these cabinets arrive ready for everyday use and suit a variety of settings within domestic, retail, or hospitality environments. In a home today, they function practically in a dining room, drawing room, or hallway to showcase ceramics, glassware, or curated collections behind glass while offering functional storage beneath traditional architectural styling.

FAQs

Keep the cabinet away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer lifting or fading, dust with a soft microfibre cloth, and apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually.

Their clean, geometric silhouettes and warm timber tones complement contemporary spaces, functioning as elegant china cabinets in dining rooms or library cases alongside modern minimalist art.

Authentic pieces feature handcrafted joinery, original hand-cut glass panes, book-matched timber veneers, geometric architectural details like stepped cornices, and structural pine secondary woods.

Makers commonly used light-coloured local hardwoods such as elm, birch, ash, and cherry veneers, often set over pine cores and paired with clear glass panes and simple brass hardware.

Originating in Central Europe during the early 19th century, Biedermeier furniture is renowned for its clean architectural lines, utilitarian forms, and emphasis on natural wood grains rather than heavy gilding or elaborate carving.
