Culvertons has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
The caning, which retains a pleasing mellow colour, has been replaced, probably at great cost, within the last 50 years. The cane remains supple and in good order. As you would expect, after nearly 200 years, the castors are replacements, however, they appear to have been supplied by a specialist foundry, are well chosen and very much in keeping with the age of the chair. I have purposely left the existing cushion in place, as the choice of material is a very personal matter. I think the thickness and firmness is spot on, but it does require replacing as its showing signs of age. We are happy to undertake this at cost, using material of your choosing or let you instruct your own upholsterer. A lovely chair that sits comfortably in a period or contemporary room setting. Measurements of the seat/cushion - 56 cm deep x 50 cm wide x 9 cm high.
