Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Victorian era, gloves were an essential component of formal attire. Specially designed elongated rectangular boxes were produced to store, flatten, and preserve leather and fabric gloves on dressing tables.

These boxes were typically constructed from cabinet woods such as rosewood, walnut, or mahogany. They often featured decorative mother-of-pearl, bone, or brass escutcheons and cartouches, alongside silk or velvet internal linings.

Authentic pieces generally display natural wood grain variations, minor surface patina, hand-cut dovetail or mitred joints, and period-correct brass locks. Mother-of-pearl inlays were typically set flush into the wood by hand.

While originally designed for gloves, these rectangular boxes function well on a sideboard, bedside table, or desk. They serve as functional storage for keys, jewellery, or stationery, while adding an historical accent to the space.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking or fading. Dust the exterior with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a neutral beeswax polish sparingly to the timber, avoiding harsh chemicals on the mother-of-pearl inlays.
