Description

A beautiful antique Edwardian inlaid mahogany armchair. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1900-1910 period.

The quality is fantastic, this has a wonderfully shaped ladder back design. There are beautifully turned spindles under the armrests and on the base, the armrests have inlaid satin wood banding all along the edges.

We have had the frame re-polished, the seat has been re-upholstered in a cream cotton fabric. The condition is excellent for its age, with just some extremely minor wear remaining beneath the polish here and there.

Width – 23 inches , 58 cm

Depth – 23 inches , 58 cm

Height – 45 inches , 114 cm

Seat height – 16 inches , 41 cm

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, often combined lighter proportions with influences from earlier periods like Sheraton, Hepplewhite, and Art Nouveau, frequently featuring inlaid details and lighter woods compared to heavy Victorian pieces.

Cabinet makers predominantly used imported timbers such as mahogany, satinwood, and walnut, often incorporating fine stringing, marquetry inlay, and traditionally stuffed upholstery with horsehair and coil springs.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting construction methods, such as hand-cut dovetails, traditional joinery, timber shrinkage, natural patination, and the absence of modern power tool marks or synthetic glues.

Placing an antique wooden chair alongside modern minimalist furnishings creates a layered, eclectic aesthetic, introducing historical texture, craftsmanship, and warmth into a neutral contemporary space.

Maintain timber condition by dusting regularly with a dry, soft cloth, avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity fluctuations, and periodically applying pure beeswax to nourish the wood without using silicone-based polishes.
