FAQs

The Hepplewhite style originated in 18th-century England, popularised by cabinetmaker George Hepplewhite, and is characterised by graceful, light proportions and distinct shield-shaped chair backs.

These pieces were traditionally constructed from dense tropical hardwoods like mahogany, featuring mortise and tenon joinery, intricately pierced splats, and drop-in upholstered seats.

Authentication involves examining timber oxidisation, hand-cut joinery marks, traditional secondary woods, and signs of genuine wear consistent with 18th or 19th-century workshop practices.

Pairing these classic wooden chairs with a minimalist contemporary dining table creates a striking contrast that highlights their traditional craftsmanship within a contemporary space.

Preserve the timber by maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax rather than modern silicone-based polishes.
