Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian tea caddy is a small, decorative container designed to store loose tea leaves securely during the nineteenth century. As tea was a valuable commodity in Victorian households, these caddies were often fitted with locks and crafted with elaborate woodwork to indicate social standing.

Traditional Victorian tea caddies were frequently constructed from hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or rosewood. Parquetry models utilised geometric veneers made from various contrasting wood species, secured with animal glues and finished with French polish or natural wax.

Authentic Victorian tea caddies usually feature hand-fitted brass hinges, period-correct lock mechanisms, and evidence of hand-cut joints or veneer application. Inside, remnants of original foil or zinc linings used to protect tea from moisture may still be present alongside natural wood shrinkage consistent with age.

A Victorian tea caddy functions well as a decorative accent on a sideboard, bookshelf, or mantelpiece in contemporary settings. Its geometric woodwork adds historical depth and visual texture when placed alongside modern ceramics or minimal tabletop accessories.

Keep the tea caddy away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood veneer from lifting or cracking. Clean the surface gently with a soft microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the timber and finish.
