Wheeler Mahogany Gossip Chair

£175    $235    €200
A charming mahogany gossip chair by Wheelers of Arncroach in Fife. The classic Chippendale style back has an open splat and curved top ends. The drop seat pads are upholstered in a sweet tapestry style fabric which is clean with no rips or wear however if the fabric is not to your liking it would be simple to recover to suit any décor. It stands on splay legs to the back with tapering square legs to the front united by an H stretcher and a cross stretcher at the back. Like all antiques there imperfections however the chair is sturdy and is a wonderful rich colour. A wonderful example of Scottish history to have in the home.

The well-known ''Gossip'' chair was a design by Sir Robert Lorimer of Kellie Castle in Scotland and made by William Wheeler of Arncroach in Fife who was both joiner and wheelwright to the Lorimer family.
