Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Howard and Sons were premier London cabinetmakers established in the 19th century, renowned for producing upholstered seating prioritising ergonomic comfort. Their open armchairs typically feature low-slung frames, deep seats, padded armrests with exposed turned supports, and signature brass castors.

Authentic pieces feature solid hardwood frames, typically oak or beech, paired with coil-sprung seats, hair filling, and down-filled cushioning. The upholstery often includes heavy-duty patterned cotton ticking fabric, supported by turned wooden legs fitted with stamped brass castors.

Authenticity is verified through maker stamps or engraved marks on the inside of the rear legs or on the brass castors, typically reading Howard & Sons Ltd, Berners St. Additionally, original underlying upholstery often features monogrammed fabric printed with the company name.

Position the armchair alongside clean-lined contemporary side tables and minimalist lighting to balance historical craftsmanship with modern aesthetics. Using neutral wall colours allows the patterned ticking fabric and timber turned supports to act as textural focal points.

Vacuum woven fabric softly using an upholstery attachment to prevent dust accumulation within the weave. Treat exposed wooden supports with natural beeswax polish and keep brass castors free from dust to maintain structural integrity and smooth movement.
