A fine aesthetic movement chair, the design of which is attributed to Henry William Batley and most likely manufactured by Collinson & Lock, London, C.1876
 
Beautifully crafted from walnut and raised on turned tapering forelegs.
 
The traditionally upholstered seat appears to be original, with imperfections.
 
A closely related chair was exhibited at the Philadelphia exhibition of 1876 by Collinson & Lock.
