18th Century Chippendale Period Tea Caddy

£1,450    $1,911    €1,732
An exceptional tea caddy or chest in sabicu, mahogany and ebony, circa 1760, undoubtedly by a high end maker, probably London, possibly Ince and Mayhew, of good colour, in very original condition.

The perfectly drawn and detailed design of this tea caddy, the use of exotic timber and a sophisticated handle, all point firmly to a high end maker of the 18th century. Pieces known to be by the renowned firm of Ince and Mayhew (unusually) use ebony consistently in their mouldings and beadings; also notable is the firm’s use of exotic timber and more elaborate brass handles.
