Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of French bedside tables dates from the 1920 period in the Louis XV style, constructed from walnut with marquetry and brass elements in a warm brown colour. Each table stands on slender cabriole legs with a serpentine gallery along the top edge, featuring geometric parquetry inlay and small round brass drawer knobs, along with a rich patina. One table has three drawers while the other has a single drawer with a side-operated secret compartment. The dimensions measure 74 cm high, 49 cm wide, and 30 cm deep. These bedside tables function practically beside a bed or as compact accent tables in a bedroom setting, providing surface space and storage while complementing traditional interior schemes.

FAQs

French Louis XV style bedside tables, or tables de chevet, typically feature curved cabriole legs, delicate parquetry or marquetry veneer work, and compact storage options such as drawers or open niches.

Cabinetmakers commonly used fine hardwoods such as walnut, oak, and kingwood, employing contrasting timber veneers to create intricate parquetry patterns alongside cast metal or brass hardware.

Authentic period examples display hand-sawn drawer linings, hand-cut dovetail joinery, uneven patina, and signs of natural timber movement along wood joints over time.

Positioning a matching pair on either side of a contemporary upholstered bed provides balance, introducing organic wood grain textures into a modern bedroom setting.

Maintain veneer integrity by wiping surfaces with a soft dry cloth, applying a high-grade beeswax polish annually, and maintaining stable room humidity away from direct heat sources.
