Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Dust the timber regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply natural beeswax sparingly to maintain the original finish. Clean the glass carefully with a damp cloth, ensuring liquid does not seep behind the frame edges to preserve the original silvering.

Position the mirror in a narrow hallway alcove, above a console table, or over a fireplace mantel to accentuate height and reflect light. Pairing dark mahogany frames with neutral wall palettes creates a tailored contrast that bridges classical and contemporary design.

Authentic Regency mirrors exhibit classical architectural details such as pilasters, reeded columns, and breakfront cornices. Examination of the back usually reveals hand-sawn softwood backboards, forged nails, and natural silvering age marks or foxing on the glass plate.

These mirrors were primarily constructed using native solid hardwoods or high-grade imported veneers, predominantly mahogany, rosewood, or giltwood. The mirror glass plates were silvered or mercury-gilded, set into frames framed by hand-turned pilasters and moulded cornices.

A pier glass mirror is traditionally designed to occupy the wall space between two windows, known as a pier. Originating prominently in the 18th and early 19th centuries, Regency examples feature classical architectural proportions, dark mahogany timber, and turned column embellishments.
