8 Inch Dial, Fusee Wall Clock By John Walker, London.
circa 1900.
Status:This item has been sold Sold by:M. C. Taylor
A totally original and very attractive little dial clock.
The eight day duration, gut fusee movement with Anchor Recoil escapement and shaped pillars.
Behind a white painted, 8'' diameter iron dial with black Roman numerals, outer divided minute ring and uniquely Walker ''spade'' hands (black painted brass with a pronounced spade to the hour hand). The centre being signed ''JOHN Walker 1 South Molton Street. LONDON'' and the glazed and polished brass bezel sits nicely over the dial.
In a pale mahogany case of good patina and colour. Also having side access side door and curved, cockbeaded and locking regulation door to the curved bottom.
* This whole clock including the pendulum is original and in well maintained condition, the colour and patina is lovely and the dial is in almost perfect condition. Of course, there are age signs of its 120 years or so of usage but nothing to distract from its appearance. Structurally the case is very sound, the bezel hinge is tight and it... all feels very robust. This is a rare opportunity to obtain an antique clock in totally original and well maintained condition - it will enhance any room. I want to give the movement an overhaul because the front fusee bearing is worn and though not nearly as important as the rear one - I want to correct it and tidy up the rest of the movement.
** John Walker were manufactures of clocks and are best known for supplying timepieces to the principal railway companies of the day. They supplied them with clocks and watches and also maintained and serviced them. John Walker started in business in 1845 and the company were still in existence as late as 1980. Their main location was 1 South Molton Street but they had various premises in London: addresses can be found on the dials of their clocks.
Dimensisons: 10 1/2'' wide x 5 1/2'' deep.
