Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1930s:
Peach tinted and clear bevelled glass: fashionable Art Deco decorative style.
Shaped plywood backboards: standard British mirror construction from the decade.
Plated metal retaining clips: period method for mounting frameless multi-plate mirrors.
Silvering wear along the bevelled inner edge: natural ageing of the reflective backing.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of wall mirrors dates from the Art Deco period around 1930 and follows a distinctive winged design. Each piece consists of an oval centre plate in peach-tinted glass flanked by white textured glass side panels with bevelled edges. The mirror plates exhibit traces of age, including a little wear to the silvering on the bottom right side of one unit, alongside metal hardware mounting elements visible at the top. The mirrors measure 37.5 cm high by 37 cm wide with a 2 cm depth. Suitable for domestic placement today, this set works well mounted together or separately within living spaces such as a hallway, bedroom, or above a fireplace alcove. The reflective surfaces bounce natural and artificial light around a room while bringing period character to interior walls. The neutral peach and white tones complement a range of colour schemes, offering a practical decorative accent for modern homes seeking vintage design details.

FAQs

Art Deco peach glass mirrors originated during the 1920s and 1930s, defined by geometric shapes, stylised motifs, and tinted mirror plates created using metallic oxides.

Tinted mirrors from this era were manufactured by adding metallic salts, such as selenium or gold chloride, to the glass batch prior to silvering the reverse side.

Authentic 1930s mirrors typically feature heavy, bevelled plate glass, silvering mounted on wooden backing boards, and distinct patination or light foxing around the edges.

A pair of decorative mirrors can be positioned symmetrically above a sideboard, on either side of a fireplace alcove, or along a hallway to bounce natural light.

Clean vintage glass using a soft microfibre cloth lightly dampened with water or a non-ammoniated cleaner, avoiding liquid contact with the backing to protect the silvering.
