The George III period spans from 1760 to 1820, characterised by classical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and an evolution from heavy mahogany to lighter, more delicate neoclassical designs influenced by designers like Thomas Chippendale and Sheraton.

These pieces typically feature solid mahogany and secondary woods like pine or oak, often decorated with decorative crossbanding and marquetry inlays. Construction involves traditional hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawers and turned wooden upright supports.

Authenticity is indicated by period-correct secondary timbers, hand-beveled mercury or silvered mirror plates with age foxing, hand-cut dovetails, and original brass or wooden turning knobs rather than modern machine-made fixings.

It can be placed on a modern console table or chest of drawers to introduce historical warmth and texture, contrasting clean lines with traditional craftsmanship.

Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and humidity fluctuations to prevent wood splitting. Clean the timber using a microfibre cloth and pure beeswax, avoiding modern chemical sprays, and use neutral glass cleaner applied to a cloth rather than directly onto the mirror plate.
