Culvertons has dated this piece to the 1870s.
Its longevity is down to the traditional upholstery (horse hair etc.) that can be felt under its fabric cover. The rolled arms and top rail are all part of its clever ergonomic design and point to it being by a leading late 19th-century manufacturer (serial no. 6433 is stamped to the inside of the back leg). Whether you are looking for a good quality armchair to use or re-upholster, this period chair will make a lovely addition to your home. Alternatively, we would be happy to prepare a quotation, and if acceptable, undertake the work that is required on your behalf.
