FAQs

The Sheraton style, prominent in the late 18th century, is characterised by classical proportions, straight lines, tapered legs, and refined decorative elements such as marquetry, satinwood banding, and hand-painted floral motifs.

These pieces typically feature fine timbers such as mahogany, satinwood, and pine as a secondary wood, assembled using traditional joinery like dovetail drawers and mortise and tenon frames, often enhanced with delicate stringing and hand-painted details.

Authenticity is assessed by examining timber ageing, hand-cut dovetails, tool marks, the quality of the hand-painting or inlay, and the type of secondary woods used in the interior construction, which help distinguish period originals from later revival pieces.

This type of cabinet functions well as a focal storage piece in a dining room, living area, or hallway, paired with understated contemporary decor to allow the detailed hand-painted woodwork to stand out.

To preserve the finish, keep the cabinet away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting or fading, and clean only with a soft, dry cloth while avoiding commercial silicone-based polishes.
