This Regency period sewing box takes the form of a sarcophagus-shaped chest constructed from wood covered in warm brown tooled leather. The Pagoda-style tiered lid features intricate sunburst embossing radiating from a central rectangular plaque, complemented by decorative borders running along the edges of the box. Below the main compartment, a lower drawer includes a small round drop handle with an ornate escutcheon, while the upper section has an original lock containing a key alongside a white-faced escutcheon. Cast brass claw feet support the corners of the base, and ornate drop ring handles with decorative backplates mount to either side of the box. The surface shows minor surface wear consistent with age, maintaining an aged reddish-brown timber tone across the leather finish.
