This Victorian collectors display cabinet dates to 1880 and comes in warm brown figured walnut with ormolu mounts, marquetry inlay, and ebonised moulding. The upright rectangular cabinet has a single glazed glass door with original glass, gilded metal applications flanking the upper corners, and internal shelving lined with fabric. The timber shows rich grain patterns under a polished finish, complemented by contrasting dark trim along the top edge and flat base moulding. Standing 96.5 cm high, 76 cm wide, and 29.5 cm deep, the piece functions as a versatile bookcase or display case for small collections. In a contemporary home, this compact cabinet suits a study, sitting room, or hallway as a practical storage and display solution for books, ornaments, or curated collections. The slim profile allows placement in tighter spaces or narrow rooms while offering visible storage behind glass doors. The original construction and period details integrate well into traditional or eclectic interiors seeking period character and functional display space.

A Victorian pier cabinet or display cabinet is a narrow glazed storage piece from the late 19th century, originally designed to fit on the wall space between large windows to display porcelain, books, or collections.

These cabinets were typically constructed using fine hardwoods such as figured walnut, mahogany, or rosewood, often adorned with brass or ormolu mounts, marquetry inlays, glass panels, and velvet or cloth linings.

Authentic pieces feature period joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, original hand-blown glass with minor distortions, aged brass lock plates, and natural oxidation on the unexposed timber beneath.

Position the piece in a living room, hallway, or study to house ceramics, art books, or curio collections, contrasting its rich timber tones against neutral or dark wall finishes.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a soft microfiber cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax paste annually, keeping the cabinet away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber warping.
