FAQs

Victorian cabinetry spans the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901), encompassing various revivals influenced by earlier Gothic, Elizabethan, and Rococo movements, often characterised by darker woods, elaborate carvings, and functional elegance.

Cabinet makers of this era predominantly utilised dense hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, and rosewood, frequently incorporating secondary woods like pine or oak for drawer linings and internal structures, complemented by brass hardware.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, genuine patina on the wood surface, old backboards, and hand-bevelled mirror glass, alongside signs of natural wear consistent with age.

This piece can serve as a functional accent unit in a living room or hallway, pairing well with contemporary minimalist decor to create a layered, collected aesthetic that highlights the warmth of the wood.

Maintain antique wooden furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and applying natural beeswax periodically to nourish the timber.
