Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

FAQs

The George III period spans from 1760 to 1820, encompassing influences from early neoclassical designs to the refined cabinet-making of Chippendale, Hepplewhite, and Sheraton, characterised by balanced proportions and quality timber.

Cabinet makers of this era predominantly used dense imported timbers like Cuban and Honduras mahogany, employing traditional joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, mortise and tenon frames, and secondary softwoods for drawer linings.

Authenticity is evaluated through timber shrinkage, hand-forged or cast brass hardware, tool marks consistent with period hand planes and saws, and the natural patination that develops on exposed surfaces over centuries.

Integrating period wooden furniture provides warmth and textural contrast in modern schemes, often serving as a functional bedside surface or an accent piece alongside minimalist or mid-century upholstery.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels away from direct heat sources and sunlight, dusting with a dry lint-free cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the timber.
