This Georgian Sheraton Revival display cabinet is constructed from golden brown satinwood with kingwood banding and ebony stringing, complemented by a raised brass baluster gallery along the breakfront top. The piece contains glazed panels with bevelled glass, a fabric-lined interior in a soft green tone with two adjustable shelves, and a single door above a shaped apron supported by splayed feet. Detailed marquetry and pen-work adornments include a central flaming urn, attendant griffins, dolphins, foliate motifs, ribbons, and swags. Measuring 148 cm high, 132 cm wide, and 36 cm deep, the cabinet is suitable for a living room, dining room, or hallway to display and store fine china, glassware, books, or decorative objects.

Satinwood furniture became prominent during the late 18th century, particularly within the Neoclassical and Sheraton styles, and experienced a significant revival during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras. Glazed display cabinets, or vitrines, were crafted to store and display valuable ceramics, glassware, and curios while protecting them from dust.

These pieces typically feature a core of solid timber overlaid with fine satinwood veneers, accented by marquetry or parquetry inlays using woods like rosewood, boxwood, and ebony. The glazing consists of individual glass panes held in timber frames, often accompanied by brass galleries, lined fabric interiors, and hand-cut dovetail joinery.

Authentic period pieces show fine, tight grain patterns in the satinwood veneer with natural darkening or patina from age. Key identification features include original brass lock plates, period-correct glass with subtle imperfections, hand-carved or hand-inlaid decorative motifs, and unrefined secondary woods on the back and interior drawer linings.

Position the cabinet against a neutral or dark feature wall in a dining room, living room, or wide hallway to highlight its warm timber tones. The glazed interior can be styled with curated contemporary ceramics, art glass, or books to create a visual contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Keep the piece away from direct sunlight, radiators, and extreme humidity changes to prevent veneer lift or fabric discolouration. Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfiber cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year to preserve the timber finish.
