This Sheraton Revival display cabinet dates from 1890 and is built in warm brown mahogany with contrasting satinwood inlay. The piece is formed of a two-piece standing structure, comprising a tall upper glazed cabinet above a slender matching base. The top section incorporates a swan-neck pediment with circular roundels at the terminals, a broken arch centre, and intricate foliate marquetry, enclosing three interior shelves behind two glazed doors with wooden astragal bars arranged in a diamond-shaped lattice. The lower section contains two small drawers side by side, fitted with small brass drop-handles, resting above an open shaped shelf that connects four tall, square tapering legs. Delicate floral marquetry decorates the arched pediment, the borders of the glazed doors, the drawer fronts, and the lower undershelf. The dimensions of the cabinet are 203 cm high, 86 cm wide, and 43 cm deep. Positioned in a living room, dining room or hallway, the cabinet provides practical display and storage space for cherished ornaments, glassware or books. The glazed upper section keeps contents visible yet protected from dust, whilst the lower open shelf and drawers offer supplementary surfaces for decorative arrangements or small items. The slim profile and raised tapering legs maintain an open feel in interior spaces, making it a functional addition to traditional or country house schemes.

Sheraton Revival furniture, prominent during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, draws inspiration from 18th-century designs. It is defined by elegant proportions, refined mahogany timbers, and classical marquetry or satinwood inlay motifs such as floral swags and classical urns.

Authentic display cabinets of this era typically utilise dense mahogany frames, hand-cut glass panes set within wooden astragal glazing bars, and delicate wood inlays such as satinwood or boxwood. Joinery features traditional hand-cut dovetails and mortise-and-tenon construction.

Key indicators of authenticity include natural patination on unvarnished surfaces, minor irregularities in hand-cut marquetry, smooth shrinkage marks around timber joints, and historical wear on interior shelf supports and lock plates.

Positioning an inlaid mahogany cabinet against a neutral or dark muted wall creates striking visual contrast. Use the glazed shelves to display curated contemporary ceramics, leather-bound books, or minimalist glassware to blend historic craftsmanship with modern aesthetics.

Keep the cabinet away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent wood shrinkage, veneer lifting, or timber bleaching. Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish annually to nourish the wood finish.
