FAQs

Regency style furniture, originating in early nineteenth-century Britain, is characterised by classical symmetry, refined proportions, and decorative wood veneers. Common features include reeded legs, brass mounts, tray-top galleries, and trompe-lil elements such as faux book bindings.

Cabinetmakers primarily utilised flame mahogany, rosewood, and satinwood for veneering and solid construction. Decorative details often featured embossed leather, gilded brass hardware, and hand-painted or inlaid accents.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, original timber shrinkages, and uneven wood oxidisation. Later reproductions typically show modern machine sanding, uniform drawer linings, and synthetic adhesive residue.

Place the cabinet alongside a upholstered bedstead or reading armchair to create contrast against muted contemporary wall finishes. Complement the rich mahogany tones with subtle brass lighting and glass decorative objects.

Apply a natural beeswax polish sparingly to the mahogany framework using a soft lint-free cloth to maintain lustre. Leather book bindings should be wiped clean with a dry cloth and occasionally treated with a dedicated leather conditioner to prevent cracking.
