This 18th-century English lead crystal wine glass exemplifies Georgian glassware styling. The clear object comprises a funnel-shaped bowl, a plain stem housing an air tear drop inclusion, and a conical folded foot showing age-related wear and tear to the rim of the base, a rough pontil mark to the underside, and a tiny extraneous bump of glass on the edge of the foot from manufacture. Dimensions measure 14.6 cm high, 7.1 cm wide, and 5.8 cm deep. Placement suits a sideboard top within an English Country house interior setting. Practical daily applications involve serving vintage wines during formal dinners or displaying the piece among collector cabinets alongside other period lead crystal tableware.

Georgian plain stem wine glasses typically feature a conical or funnel-shaped bowl, a straight unadorned stem often containing a drawn air tear, and a conical base, produced predominantly between 1730 and 1760.

These glasses were formed from heavy lead crystal glass, hand-blown in three parts comprising the bowl, drawn or attached stem, and a folded or plain conical foot designed to add strength and limit chipping.

Authentic 18th-century pieces usually exhibit a snapped pontil mark on the underside of the base, subtle weight with a greyish hue characteristic of early lead glass, and evidence of hand-tooling or a folded rim.

Displaying historic glasses in glass-fronted cabinets, on exposed shelving, or arranged as a tabletop centrepiece allows natural light to highlight the internal clarity and subtle hand-crafted variations.

Hand wash carefully in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding dishwasher use and rapid temperature changes that cause thermal shock and fracturing of delicate antique glass.
