A pair of Regency period Spode porcelain spill vases, decorated in pattern 1726, dates to circa 1815-1820. The trumpet-shaped vessels are rendered in fine white bone china with vibrant hand-painted floral bouquets featuring pink, yellow, blue, and purple summer flowers. Rich gilding accents the geometric borders, whilst raised white beaded relief decorates the flared rims, the stepped bases, and the lower bodies. Each vase measures 11.5 cm high and 8 cm wide. These decorative table accents suit placement on a traditional mantelpiece, a console table, or a sideboard within a period-styled living room or study. Their classic Regency form and colourful botanical motifs bring a refined English porcelain touch to interior display spaces.

Spill vases were designed to hold spills, which were thin wooden splints or tightly rolled paper strips used to transfer a flame from a fireplace to light candles, pipes, or lamps. They were typically displayed in pairs on mantelpieces near the fire.

Spode porcelain from this era was constructed from fine bone china, composed of china clay, china stone, and bone ash. Decorations were applied using hand-painted enamel pigments and finished with burnished gold leaf gilding.

Authentic pieces usually feature hand-painted or stamped maker marks on the underside, alongside painted pattern numbers. Early pieces show crisp hand-painted botanical detailing, translucent body composition under light, and precise gilded borders.

A pair of spill vases works well placed symmetrically on a mantelpiece, console table, or within a formal bookcase. Their compact proportions and detailed decoration allow them to function as accents alongside framed art or contemporary ceramics.

Clean using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a soft-bristled brush to remove dust. Avoid immersing in water, using chemical solvents, or scrubbing the gilded edges, as friction can wear away original hand-applied gold leaf over time.
