Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Secessionist cocktail display cabinet dates from 1900 and is constructed from warm brown oak. The upper section comprises a bevelled mirror-backed display shelf framed by black pillar columns and small side brackets, all beneath a flat cornice with geometric dark wood inlay. Below the main counter, double doors feature glass window panes, geometric inlay borders, and brass keyhole escutcheons, opening to reveal a spacious interior with a replacement back panel. Additional storage is provided by a lower drawer with a central brass handle and an open gallery shelf at the base, supported on low straight feet. Measuring 178 cm high, 94 cm wide, and 41 cm deep, the cabinet is well-suited for use as a cocktail or drinks display unit in a living room, dining room, or hallway. The warm timber tones and geometric decorative motifs complement both traditional and modern interiors while providing practical surface space, enclosed storage, and display areas for glassware and bottles.

FAQs

Originating in Vienna during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Secessionist furniture rejected traditional historicism in favour of clean geometric forms, subtle linear ornamentation, and functional design principles that paved the way for modernism.

Cabinets from this movement typically featured solid hardwoods such as oak or walnut, accented with geometric wood inlays, brass hardware, bevelled glass panels, and structural metal or ebony supports.

Authentic examples demonstrate precise hand-cut joinery, period-correct brass locks and keyplates, geometric marquetry or stringing, and natural age-related patina to timber and mirror plates.

Position the piece as a focal point in a dining room or living space, balancing its structured geometric silhouette against neutral walls, contemporary art prints, and warm architectural lighting.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish annually to nourish the wood, while keeping brass fittings unlacquered and cleaned gently to preserve historic patina.
