Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1930s:
Vertical back panels showing shrinkage between boards: natural timber movement over decades.
Cast rococo brass mounts with rubbed high points: age and gentle handling.
Shaped breccia marble top cut to follow the serpentine frame: skilled stonework.
Chevron-matched kingwood veneers with fine edge stringing: careful revival craftsmanship.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This small French Louis XV style vitrine or display cabinet dates to 1930 and is constructed from kingwood veneer, marble, glass, brass, and fabric. The cabinet measures 134.5 cm high, 68.5 cm wide, and 39.5 cm deep, presenting a warm brown exterior with an intricate grain pattern and a serpentine-shaped, highly figured marble top with a moulded edge. A single glazed door sits at the front, flanked by serpentine-shaped glass sides, all accented by extensive brass mouldings, large pierced ormolu mounts on the shaped frame, and a small keyhole. Inside, the cabinet is lined with pale duck-egg blue moire fabric and fitted with two plate glass shelves. The base features a shaped apron and cabriole legs with further pierced brass mounts and brass sabots on the front feet. There is a small flake from the glass at the front edge of one shelf, but the cabinet is otherwise in excellent cleaned and waxed condition, and a key is supplied. This piece is suitable for display use in a living room, hallway, or dining room to showcase collections of small decorative objects or porcelain.

FAQs

Louis XV style vitrines are distinguished by asymmetrical rococo curves, cabriole legs, decorative wood veneers, ornamental gilt metal mounts, and glazed panels designed for exhibiting valuable decorative objects.

These pieces frequently incorporate fine wood veneers such as kingwood or walnut, shaped marble tops, cast brass or bronze ormolu mounts, interior fabric lining, and glass shelving.

Revival cabinets from circa 1930 exhibit refined machine-assisted joinery, modern glass panels, precisely fitted metal mounts, and period-appropriate veneer patterns reflecting traditional French design techniques.

A vitrine can serve as a focal point in a hallway, living area, or bedroom, providing controlled visibility for ceramics, glassware, or curated collections alongside minimalist or eclectic furnishings.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry, soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemical polishes on wood veneers or gilded mounts, keep away from direct sunlight and moisture sources, and clean glass panels with a mild solution applied to a microfibre towel.
