Description

A lovely pair of antique Georgian style mahogany side tables. They were made in England, they date from around the 1930’s.

The quality is superb, they have a smart and very useful design. The tops have lovely raised gallery edges, the lower sections contain two drawers and there is a useful lower tier. They sit on bun feet and are finished on all sides including the backs, so can be used as free standing items. They would be very useful as lamp tables in a lounge or even as bedside tables.

We have had them recently re-polished, the condition is excellent for their age.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Georgian style spans the reigns of the first four Georges, characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and the transition from walnut to mahogany as the preferred timber.

Makers predominantly used solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, often complemented by brass hardware, oak secondary woods for drawer linings, and hand-cut dovetail joints.

Authenticity is determined by examining construction methods such as hand-cut dovetailing, timber shrinkage patterns, patination, and the type of fixings and fixings used in the assembly.

These pieces add warmth and historical depth to contemporary spaces when paired with neutral walls, minimalist upholstery, and modern lighting fixtures for textural contrast.

Preservation requires regular dusting with a soft, dry cloth, avoiding direct sunlight and heat sources, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood surface.
