This pair of nineteenth century Regency bedside tables is crafted from mahogany and burr wood in a warm brown colour, each featuring a raised tray top above a single cupboard door quarter veneered with geometric line inlay and ebony stringing. Original ebonised round knob handles secure the doors, which open above an open lower shelf supported by square tapered legs. The dimensions measure 74.2 cm high, 16.5 cm wide, and 35.5 cm deep. Positioned in a bedroom or living space, these tables serve practical roles beside a bed or sofa for holding small accessories and decorative items. The traditional materials and clean lines suit period interiors as well as modern homes seeking functional storage with classic design details.

During the nineteenth century, bedside cabinets were originally designed as pot cupboards or nightstands to discreetly house chamber pots. As indoor plumbing evolved later in the era, these pieces transitioned into modern bedside tables intended for holding lighting, books, and personal effects.

Tables from this period were predominantly constructed using dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or rosewood. Craftsmen utilized veneer panels, satinwood or ebony line inlay, and brass hardware, built with traditional mortise, tenon, and dovetail joinery.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints inside drawers, uneven saw marks on rear panelling, and natural oxidation on original timber surfaces. Look for period-correct construction techniques, such as drawer runners integrated directly into the carcass and aged brass fittings.

Position the pair on either side of a bed to create symmetry and balance within the master suite. Contrast the warm timber finish with contemporary bed linens, modern ceramic lamps, and minimalist artwork.

Dust the surfaces regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply high-grade beeswax twice yearly to protect the finish. Keep the furniture away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage, warping, or veneer bleaching.
