A gorge case clock features a distinctive stepped or tiered architectural brass frame, commonly produced in France during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

These clocks are constructed primarily from cast or sheet brass frames housing bevelled glass panels, enclosing a mechanical brass movement with steel components.

Authenticity is determined by examining the hand-cut serial numbers on the brass movement, the quality of the mercury or pendulum suspension, and the presence of genuine bevelled glass panes.

Place the clock upon a prominent flat surface such as a mantelpiece or side table, allowing the polished metal and glass to reflect natural light amidst minimalist decor.

Dust the exterior gently with a dry microfiber cloth, avoid harsh chemical polishes on the brass casing, and have the mechanical movement professionally serviced every three to five years.
