A fusee is a conical pulley used in mechanical clocks to maintain an even pull on the gear train as the mainspring unwinds, ensuring accurate timekeeping.

These clocks typically feature solid mahogany or oak cases with brass bezels, metal dials, and hand-painted or engraved roman numerals.

Authenticity is verified by inspecting the fusee chain or cord mechanism behind the dial, checking for matching serial numbers, and observing the natural ageing of the brass and timber.

Mount the clock as a focal point on a plain, neutral wall in a hallway or study to highlight its traditional craftsmanship against a modern backdrop.

The mechanical movement requires professional oiling and servicing every three to five years, while the wooden case should be dusted gently with a dry, soft cloth.
