Scottish burr wood snuff boxes are small, highly detailed containers historically used for holding ground tobacco, known as snuff, during the 18th and 19th centuries.

These boxes were typically carved from native hardwoods such as burr elm, ash, or sycamore, often featuring intricate transfer-printed lid designs and turned wooden hinges.

Authenticity is identified through period-appropriate construction methods, natural timber ageing, traditional hinge mechanisms, and wear consistent with age and handling.

Antique small objects add historical depth when displayed on a bookshelf, mantelpiece, or coffee table as part of a curated collection of curiosities.

Preserve wooden boxes by keeping them away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity, occasionally treating the timber with specialized microcrystalline wax.
