Tunbridge ware is a distinct type of wooden woodwork characterised by minute mosaic decoration, produced primarily in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Items were typically constructed from native and exotic timbers, featuring mosaic tesserae assembled from thousands of tiny wood blocks to form complex geometric or pictorial designs.

Authentic pieces feature extremely fine, hand-assembled wood mosaic work, often with distinctive key escutcheons, solid timber secondary woods, and characteristic banding patterns.

Such pieces function effectively as sculptural tabletop objects on sideboards, consoles, or desks, adding texture, historical interest, and warmth to modern schemes.

Maintain stable humidity and temperature away from direct sunlight and heat sources, applying occasional microcrystalline wax to nourish the historic polished wood surfaces.
