Regency furniture, spanning roughly from 1811 to 1830, is characterised by classical proportions, inspired by ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian designs, often featuring fine timbers such as rosewood and mahogany with brass detailing.

Cabinet makers of this era typically used dense native or exotic hardwoods like rosewood and mahogany, often incorporating fine veneers, hand-cut dovetail joints, and intricate brass or gilt metalwork.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the timber grain, hand-cut joinery in drawers, the presence of period-appropriate brass hardware, and natural ageing indicators like oxidation and wear patterns on the wood.

An antique rosewood cabinet serves as a sophisticated focal point in modern rooms when paired with neutral walls, minimalist lighting, and contemporary artwork to create a balanced contrast between old and new.

Preservation involves keeping the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, dusting with a dry microfibre cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the wood finish.
