This singing bird box dates to the Art Deco period around 1930 and follows the Belle Epoque style. Made from gilt metal and brass, the exterior displays cobalt blue enamel, engine-turned metalwork borders, and white enamel arch motifs. A hand-painted lakeside landscape vignette decorates the front panel, while an oval hinged lid sits on the top surface. The box measures 5.1 cm high, 10.5 cm wide, and 6.5 cm deep. Inside the mechanism, the bird features multicoloured feathers. The base carries the initial KG indicating the maker Karl Griesbaum. Collectors typically place an entertainment piece of this nature on a sideboard top or within a gentleman's library setting for display.

A singing bird box is a compact mechanical automaton developed in Geneva during the late eighteenth century, designed to conceal a miniature articulated feather bird that emerges through a flap to sing and move when activated by a trigger.

These pieces were crafted with brass clockwork mechanisms housed in cases of sterling silver, gilt metal, brass, or tortoiseshell, often decorated with hand-painted enamel miniatures and engine-turned surface ornamentation.

Authentic examples feature hand-cut gear trains, hand-painted enamel work lacking modern printing dot patterns, and individual serial numbers or maker marks stamped directly onto the interior brass movement plates.

A singing bird box is typically styled as a curious accent piece on a sideboard top, desk, or inside a glazed cabinet, positioned alongside fine art volumes or porcelain objects.

Care involves winding the mechanism gently without forcing the spring key, keeping the casing away from direct heat and moisture, and dusting the enamel panels with a dry microfibre cloth without abrasive cleaning chemicals.
