ANTIQUE #SA998234

19th Century Cast Iron Chair

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: William Carr Antiques

A rare 19th Century Cast iron chair, very much in the manner of a Christopher Dresser design for Coalbrookdale, C.1870.

The trompe l''oeil (fool the eye) tufted seat is recorded on an 1868 design registered by the Masborough Stove Grate Company in England. However this seat can be easily identified on the Coalbrookdale chairs designed by Dresser in the late 1860s, similarly the chairs form and construction are also very alike.

Crisp spiral turnings to the forelegs with pierced foliate scroll panel back flanked by leaf capped columns and green painted simulated button upholstered seat.

In very nice original condition, we do however offer a full range of restoration services if the current colour/finish is not to your liking.
