Pair Of Louis XVI Armchairs

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Lee Wright Antiques & Interiors Ltd

A fine white painted Louis XVI armchair with carved detailing, c.1775.

The chair back with carved paterae to each corner between bands of guilloche. The arms carved in a high relief entrelac pattern and the seat rails decorated with carved acanthus. The square sectioned legs with panels of guilloche and terminating in floral carved spade feet. Each front knee with a carved patera to each side.

An early 19th century Louis XVI armchair with carved detailing made to match the painted chair c.1810.

The chair of identical pattern but gilded rather than painted and slightly later in date. The carving boldly executed and very decorative and it is highly likely that this chair was made to expand the set originally commissioned in the late 18th century. The sweeping out curved arms with entrelac pattern carving are a particularly unusual feature and make this model very decorative.

These chairs are stripped out and ready for upholstery.
